DERWENTWATER TRAGEDY Location:  Nelson Cemetery, Walton Lane. The monument is at the top end of the cemetery.  OS ref: 103:  SD 873 383  Date:  May 1899, unveiled by Rev G H Pickering NANCY PICKLES was 20 and the youngest of the 5 girls. She lived in Stanley Street with her parents John & Mary Alice and was the eldest of 8 children. She was a weaver at John Whittakers Mill. She was a Sunday School teacher at the Wesleyan Chapel.
