Location: On the coastal path near the church  OS Ref: 66 NT 327 948  Date: 23 January 2011 The wording on the memorial reads:-  "The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them,  glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it." This memorial is a tribute to 5 men from West Wemyss who had tethered a sea mine which had broken away from  its moorings and was heading towards the shore of the village.  During this procedure the mine exploded killing the men involved.
